The importance of solar exterior light

The use of solar exterior light in our pavement is no longer a decoration, but it has become a valuable asset for security protection in today lifestyle. It lightens up all the way from the yard, the drive path and the car porches, which makes the driver feel safer to drive the car and park without worry.

To install the light is simple. Either you can do it yourself or hire a professional technician to do so. With the user-friendly guide included in the package of light set, you can easily follow the instruction to hand on all the work if you prefer to. This exterior flood light has improved from its previous version is now powered by solar light which makes the energy saving for the users.

For someone to start off with the mind to setup a Solar security floodlight with motion sensor (what a long name!), one should consider the following functions

1. The basic function of lighting your house areas, including driveway, walkways, etc
2. To beautify your yard and gardening
3. To choose whether it is a floodlight or spotlight simply based on the need of the light density.
- floodlight provides wide beam
- spotlight provides narrow beam

Once you decided to buy a floodlight, then you should consider the following

- warranty period: 12 months
- return policy: 30 day money back guarantee
- detect motion within 180 degrees, up to 35 feet away
- easy to setup, no wires, no electricity needed, depends on Sunlight
- Easy DIY installation. No wiring. No electrician needed.
- Adjustable swivel head and sensor.
- Durable weatherproof housing.

Make sure the floodlight set you buy includes
- A sensor
- 15 foot cable
- 10 watt halogen bulb
- 6 volt 4 amp acid rechargeable battery
- some bolts and nuts

Why motion sensor in a flood light break down easily?

Motion sensor flood light
Don't buy a motion sensor flood light until you read this? This sounds very familiar to you as it is found in any advertisement you have come across. But trust me, I am not from any light company or supplier for the lights. This is a true experience which I spent money to find out why motion sensor break down easily.
Once a qualified electrician advised me that the motion sensors in the flood light tends to break down frequently and recommended me to change them with a dawn to dusk solar light and a regular (non-motion detector) porch light (probably not a flood light).

One of a logical and good reason given by the electrician is the motion sensor break down due to long period of the direct sunlight exposure when the motion sensor pointed to the Sun. The motion sensor get cook and it often happens right about one year, either before or after the one-year warranty period.

Before you start changing the direction of the motion sensor pointing to, you must find out whether it is a motion detector or a photo sensor built in the flood light.

Some people have mixed up both types.

A photo sensor is made of low quality plastics which will deteriorate in the sun fairly quickly. Unless you aim the photo sensor to North which will reduce the actual amount of solar radiation reaching the sensor lens to make it have a longer lifespan.

Unlike the photo sensor, the motion sensor depends on the material used to build the motion sensor and the way how it built. A good quality motion sensor should be set behind a UV protected lens so that it can last longer. Although both lights will tends to break down if expose to a long period of sunlight.

The difference between placing in a direction of the motion sensor and floodlight

The motion sensor can be pointed in any direction to detect movement within the scope, facing the solar panel south will give a best result, or else as long as it is not east or west where the Sun rise and set.
The floodlight can be faced in any direction. The sun has no effect on the location of the floodlight or the motion sensor in most applications.

Best benefits are:
• no connection to the grid;
• can install almost anywhere;
• cost nothing to operate;
• safe and easily relocated.
